What is Harvest of the Month???
- HOTM is a fun way to get into classrooms and introduce a fruit or vegetable to your child’s class. Commitment level is variable and roles can be done from home or in-person.
- If you sign-up to help, you're NOT committed to helping EVERY month, only the dates that work for you. It is not a reoccurring time commitment, unless that is what you are looking for.

Parent Volunteers help with 30 minutes in the classroom on a regular monthly basis. Using a Sign-Up Genius, volunteers pick their role from 3 components/month:
#1 Presentation: Volunteers present a short (5-10 min) presentation about the featured produce. Slides and/or video provided on the Alamo HOTM website if you want to use them.
#2 Activity: Volunteers present a short (10 min) activity that includes the featured produce. Examples: coloring page, writing activity, trivia game, arts and crafts, directed-draw, word search, etc. Get creative! Options provided on the Alamo HOTM website if you want to use them.
#3 Tasting: Provide students with a sample to taste. Due to food allergies, please keep taste-testing to the highlighted produce (minimize additional ingredients).
Plates, napkins, utensils in the office cabinet and available for all to use. Reimbursement possible up to $5/classroom each month. Submit receipts to PTA.

The California Department of Public Health adopted Harvest of the Month in 2005. The program is meant to:
- INCREASE Access to fruits and vegetables through school meal programs, classroom activities, school gardens, etc.
- INCREASE Student Preference for produce items
- INCREASE Participation in daily physical activity and understanding of why it is important.
- INCREASE Knowledge and familiarity with California grown fruits and vegetables, local farmers, the state's rich agricultural bounty, and how food travels from the farm to our plates.
